The 31-year-old star – whose fiancé popped the question on Christmas Eve (24.12.20) – admitted she was a bit confused when she stubbled on the romantic arrangement, which included a raft of white flowers strung between two trees.
Appearing on ITV’s ‘Loose Women’ on Thursday (07.01.21), she said: “He’d asked someone to put these white roses through two trees that the boys always run through … And I was like, ‘Oh my god, I think someone’s passed away in our wood’.
“He was like, ‘Oh no! Shall we go and have a look.’ And I was like, ‘No you can’t do that, that’s awful.’ ”
However, the 38-year-old star popped the question once they were beside the display, which left his bride-to-be in tears.
The former ‘EastEnders’ actor also appeared on the daytime panel show, and revealed he’s happy they shared such a happy moment at the end of a difficult 2020.
He said: “We’ve had such a tough year, me and Stacey, privately. Losing people, my Nan and stuff like that.
“I just thought, you know, I wanted to do this for a long time, and there’s no better time than right now. It was lovely because all the boys were there, they got to see it. She said yes, so we’re going to get married.”
And Joe – who asked Stacey’s father and sister for her hand in marriage – suggested wedding bells will be ringing much sooner than expected, and potentially in “a few months”.
He added: “To be fair, I didn’t think we were going to get married so soon. I thought we’d have a couple of years … Sometimes you’ve got to get on the ride and go for it. I think Stacey’s really keen to do it this year.
“I’m really keen as well, because like I said – it’s been a really tough year, and I can’t wait for her to be my life.”
